A Journey Into Timeless Wisdom

Time Is Cows + The Healing Safari

For more than two decades, Dr. Tanya Pergola's work in Tanzania has been shaped by her relationship with the Maasai and the wisdom she discovered through years of learning, living, and working in Maasailand.

Today, there are two ways to enter that world: through her book, Time Is Cows: Timeless Wisdom of the Maasai, or through The Healing Safari, an immersive journey into Tanzania that brings many of these teachings to life.

What Tanzania Taught Me

When Tanya first visited Tanzania and Maasailand, she quickly realized she was in a place and among people who had something profound to teach her.

What began as curiosity became a ten-year apprenticeship with Maasai traditional healer Lekoko Ole Sululu. Through rituals, ceremonies, stories, nature, and everyday life, Tanya discovered a different way of thinking about health, community, time, and what it means to live well.

Those lessons became the foundation for much of her work today.

They also became the inspiration for her book, Time Is Cows.

Inside These Pages

What if some of the answers to our increasingly complicated lives could be found in ancient wisdom?

In Time Is Cows, Tanya shares the mind-body-spirit medicine of the Maasai and explores the rituals, ceremonies, stories, and perspectives she encountered during her years of apprenticeship in Tanzania.

The book offers a refreshing path back to simplicity, presence, and well-being, translating ancient teachings into practical ideas and practices that can be incorporated into modern life.

What Readers are Saying

Thanks for your wonderful book. I found it an intriguing blend of anthropology, healing, wellness, and self-discovery. I hope it finds a wide audience!
— Mark J. Plotkin, Ph.D.
What I loved about this book is the genuine thread of healing that reaches from deep in the soul of Africa into the hustle and bustle of the Western mind. I congratulate the author for taking the courage to connect the dots between those cultures and giving us daily tools to work with.
— Anne Biging, Founder
Still this book is not a book only of self-discovery or Maasai culture - it is a book about an ancient wisdom that we all can tap into. This is the energy that will change the world.
— Lorna Owens, Humanitarian, Attorney

From the Pages to the Place, Experience Tanzania for Yourself

Reading about Maasailand is one thing. Experiencing its landscapes, rhythms, people, and traditions is something entirely different.

The Healing Safari was created to offer an immersive experience of the world that has influenced Tanya so deeply.

Over seven days in Tanzania, you'll step away from the noise and routines of everyday life and reconnect with nature, yourself, and the people around you.

Guided by Tanya and Maasai elders, the journey weaves together personal reflection, ancient traditions, wellness practices, wildlife, and the extraordinary landscape of Tanzania.

A Day on the Safari

No two days need to feel exactly alike, but a typical day might begin with dawn meditation and vision-quest preparation, followed by breakfast in the bush.

From there, the day may include a Maasai ritual, wildlife safari, herbal medicine, yoga, breathwork, and time to simply be present in the landscape.

As evening arrives, gather around the campfire for reflection and conversation before ending the day beneath a sky filled with stars.

The rhythm is intentional: less rushing, more noticing.

The Wisdom Continues

The book and the safari offer two different ways into the same story.

The Healing Safari invites you to step into the landscape itself.

Both are rooted in the same belief:

Sometimes, stepping outside the familiar is exactly what helps us see our lives more clearly.
